Young Eagles Flights

August, 2018 Young Eagle Flights for Evan and Ian, two of our newest Young Eagles.

June 9, 2018 We had a grand time with Young Eagle flying and awards this month. Three youngsters got their 5 flight pins and 3 pilots flew 8 youngsters. A great day!

Marianna Fly-In Young Eagles Flights

May 19, 2018 Armed Forces Day Marianna Fly-IN - EAA 1358 had an incredible presence at the 8th Annual Armed Forces Day and Fly-In in Marianna, Florida. We had the opportunity to fly many Young Eagles at the event. David Burke captured the experience of the Young Eagle Flights in a YouTube Video that can be viewed below.

The Club had terrific success in sharing our love of flight with many youngsters, and we believe many of them will continue on the Young Eagle path. All, however, had an experience that they will never forget.

Young Eagles Flights

March 10, 2018 - All the Chapter Young Eagle pilots were unavailable, but Mark Jones from the Enterprise Chapter flew in for the IMC Club meeting and agreed to fly two eager youngsters.

Two significant birthday flights occurred in March.  The first, on the 20th, was for Bill Castlen’s 81st.  Fellow EAA Chapter 1358 members Larry Turnage and Chuck Ebbecke went with Bill on a flight to Florala (0J4) for “Flying, Food (barbecue and peanuts), and Fellowship".

The second flight was with Bill Castlen and George Caldwell, on the 31st.  George turned 91.  George is a WWII, Korea, and Vietnam vet and still sharp as a tack.  George made the takeoff and landing as they flew locally for about an hour including going over his house to wave at his wife, Hilde.  Joining us on the flight were his daughter Dianne and her fiancé Al.

Young Eagles Flights

We had a great day today flying Young Eagles - perfect weather. A total of 7 youngsters signed up for today, and at least 3 of them asserted that they want to learn to fly.

Southeast World of Work

For the third year, EAA Chapter 1358 has supported the Southeast Worlds of Works event at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds by having a Young Eagle booth to encourage youngsters to get active in aviation. This year President Ray Carney, Young Eagle Coordinator Alison Denham, and members Larry Turnage, Hugh Wheelless, Jr., and Bill Castlen spoke with innumerable youngsters about the program. We really went “hi-tech” this year with a QR code that youngsters could scan with their smart phones and go directly to our web site page to sign up for a Young Eagle flight. This has resulted in getting over 20 youngsters querying our web site about Young Eagle Flights.

David Miller Memorial Scholarship Presentations

EAA 1358 awarded our David Miller Memorial Scholarships to Auburn Aviation Camp.  The recipients of these scholarships were Young Eagle Dawsen Hughes and Young Eagle William Parker.  They will fly to Auburn Aviation Camp on Sunday, June 17th and return home on Friday, June 22nd with two of our Chapter’s Young Eagle pilots.  CONGRATULATIONS DAWSEN & WILLIAM!

Moving Day

President Ray Carney, Immediate Past President Danny Cherry, IMC Club Leader Larry Turnage, Aero-One Lineman Daniel Green, and GoFer Bill Castlen moved most of our stuff to the new location on January 16, 2018.

Former Chapter 1358 Young Eagle Graduates with Honors!

Lynze Price, a former Chapter 1358 Young Eagle, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance Science Summa Cum Laude from the Embry-Riddle College of Aviation on December 18, 2017.  Attending the ceremony were a host of family and friends.  Lynze’s Dad and Mom, Tom and Mary, hosted a super celebration luncheon after the graduation.

Also attending were representatives from Chapter 1358: President Ray Carney, immediate past President Danny Cherry, and Young Eagle pilot Bill Castlen.  This trio put into play the Chapters motto (Flying, Food, and Fellowship) and flew down to the grand event.  This flight was a great example of all that is wonderful about General Aviation and EAA: the utility and safety of operating in a weather environment and the beauty of things seen only from the air.

On Saturday, Oct 21, Chapter 1358 supported Chapter 1464’s Young Eagle Rally at Bonifay, FL, by flying 12 youngsters.  A total of about 35 new Young Eagles were “hatched” and took to the air and are now interested in becoming pilots.  A beautiful day.

    Young Eagles

The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

    Come Fly with Us

EAA Chapter 1358 actively supports the Young Eagles program by regularly flying area youngsters as part of our annual activities.  Our chapter members have flown thousands of Young Eagles.  To find out when our next flight rally will occur, view our events calendar.
